America's Boating Course

We concluded an offering of America's Boating Course in September at Flotilla Island on Lake Murray. Flotilla Island is located at the end of Johnson Marina Road, between Ballentine and Chapin, S.C. Materials for the class are $40. Cost is $50 per couple if you share the materials.

Please check back for online registration of our next class, which will be offered in the spring of 2018.

The course is open to the public and covers all types of boats and boating on inland and coastal waters. The instructional material is produced by the United States Power Squadrons® and is presented by members of Lake Murray Power Squadron.

America's Boating Course provides students with all the information required by federal and state boating laws and regulations. Completion of the course meets educational requirements for boat operation in all states and qualifies youths under age 16 to operate watercraft of more than 15 horsepower without adult supervision. Course graduates also may qualify for discounts on boat insurance.

Topics covered include types of boats, required safety equipment, Navigational Rules of the Road, aids to navigation, boat registration, safety procedures, finding your way, electronic navigation, anchoring, adverse conditions, communications afloat, and knots and lines. For details, click here.

Lake Murray Power Squadron's certified instructors meet the requirements of the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators.
