To celebrate 2021, Lake Murray Power Squadron will
offer America's Boating Course (ABC3) free of charge in April and August to
students who borrow instead of buy an instruction manual. The
287-page, full–color manual also is available to purchase for $35.
The April class has reached capacity, but you can still register for August.
This two-session course will be held from 9 a.m. until 1
p.m. on August 7 and August 14 at Flotilla Island on Lake Murray, located at the end of Johnson Marina Road in Ballentine,

The course is open to the public and covers all types
of boats and boating on inland and coastal waters. The instructional
material is produced by the United States Power Squadrons® and is
presented by members of Lake Murray Power Squadron.
America's Boating Course provides students with all the
information required by federal and state boating laws and regulations.
Completion of the course meets educational requirements for boat operation
in all states and qualifies youths under age 16 to operate watercraft of
more than 15 horsepower without adult supervision. Course graduates also may
qualify for discounts on boat insurance.
Topics covered include types of boats, required safety
equipment, Navigational Rules of the Road, aids to navigation, boat
registration, safety procedures, finding your way, electronic navigation,
anchoring, adverse conditions, communications afloat, and knots and lines.
