2019 Welcomed
With Annual
Oyster Roast/Shrimp Boil
About 100 Lake Murray Power Squadron members and their guests
enjoyed a terrific oyster roast with beautiful weather on 26 January 2019 at
Flotilla Island.
All told, P/C Lee Ayers, SN cooked 360 pounds of oysters and 70
pounds of shrimp. A special thanks to P/C Janice Ayers, AP for the side dishes
and to our member volunteers who helped set up the building for the feast. Last, but not
least, thanks to all the members who assisted with the clean-up after eating all
those oysters and shrimp. Janice also was kind enough to donate some beautiful
handmade coasters that were sold with proceeds going to our 2019 Repairs and
Maintenance Fund.
The one drawback to this year's event was the issue encountered
with our bathrooms and an island full of members. You will see the "brain trust"
standing outside diagnosing the problem that day if you open the slide show
below. We are happy to report that subsequent to the Oyster Roast, the drainage
problem was tackled by one of our new members. A big thank you to Steve Crater
and his crew, who volunteered to take change of the project. By the time he was
done, roots in the system were removed, a new cleanout was installed, and a pit
was built to keep the roots out and allow easy access for maintenance and
trouble shooting in the future.
Take a look at the photo gallery to see what you missed,
including the obligatory bonfire that wrapped up the day's events.
